There are many different types of yoga mats, they come in all sorts of thicknesses, lengths, colors, patterns, etc.  When shopping for a mat you should keep a few things in mind.  You will want a mat long enough you when you are flat on your back.  Thickness is a personal decision, some people like extra thick mats while others like a thinner mat.  A thinner mat will not provide as much cushioning as a thick mat but the thin mat will be easier to roll up and more compact when rolled.

2.  You will also need a good yoga blanket.  The blanket has many uses, the blanket can be rolled up into a bolster to provide back support, hip support, or support under your knees.  Yoga blankets can be difficult to find in stores and when you do find them the quality is normally sub-par or the selection is limited.  For the largest selection of yoga blankets, try big online retailers like Amazon, where you will find the best selection.  A yoga blanket can take the place of a yoga bolster.
